This survey says 48 percent of moms across the country want a spa day. Does that hold true for you?
Almost one third of moms in America (31 percent) say they often pretend to like their Mother’s Day gifts, according to Monrovia-based World Vision. Does that statement hold true for you? The average person will spend $152.52 on gifts this Mother's Day with total spending expected to reach $18.6 billion, according to Forbes. Now that's a lot of money. Which brings us to the question: What do moms really want? According to an Ebates.com survey, here are the top four requests: But, says World Vision, nearly 2 in 3 (64 percent) of moms would ultimately prefer a meaningful gift rather than a traditional one. Patch Asks: Moms, help us set the record straight! What do you want for Mother's Day? What great gifts have you gotten in the past? …

The Diamond Bar Planning Commission will consider allowing a tutorial center to move into an empty office in the Diamond Hills Plaza.
The Diamond Hills Plaza Center could be getting a new tenant and filling empty office space if the city’s Planning Commission approves plans for a new tutorial center. Developer Matt Jeng, with Anokia Inc., a commercial and residential design company, is asking for a conditional use permit from the commission in order to open a Pine Edu tutorial center at 21349 Cold Spring Lane. The tutoring center had been operating as a home-based business, but its operators are looking to expand it into the 1,322-square-foot facility, city officials said. Pine Edu works with students to improve test scores, including SAT scores, officials said. Classes would be offered Monday through Saturday with hours that are adjusted in accordance with the school …

Although second in the popular vote, the restaurant is named the winner of this week's Readers' Choice poll.
Mother's Day is rapidly approaching, so we asked you, the Diamond Bar Patch readers, to tell us where the best place in town to take her for brunch. And the final vote was close. Although the Pomona Valley Mining Company won the popular choice, we're going to stay local and crown Peacock Gardens as this week's Readers' Choice winner. First off, we like you to have a local option. And second, based on a review of the restaurant on its listing page. That's where people should be able to go to see what locals think of their local businesses. And special thanks for the added vote for previous winner Mandarin Choice. Next week, we're really going to need your help with suggestions and votes. So check back Monday morning for next week's poll.
Diamond Bar’s council members approved the final phase of service fee increases this week. The changes come after more than a decade of zero fee increases.
Though not very popular in 2010 when first proposed, Diamond Bar’s City Council members quietly approved the final phase of service fee increases this week, making it a little more expensive to do business in the city. The changes come after more than a decade without fee increases, city staff said. The city was so behind, they were subsidizing nearly half the cost of the services, according to city staffers. The council voted unanimously to approve the final increase, which put a three-year increase -- starting in 2010 -- at nearly 30 percent higher than the fee schedule from 1998, the last time the city had adjusted its fees. It was necessary, said Ryan McLean, Assistant to the City Manager. For example, some projects, primarily through …

Uncertainty over the future of a proposed football stadium and a freeway onramp has further stalled development of the vacant former car dealership.
The former Diamond Bar Honda building will likely remain vacant until April 2013 while the futures of a football stadium and a freeway ramp are determined. Council members voted Tuesday to extend an urgency ordinance approved last month. The ordinance placed a moratorium on the issuance of land use permits for property on the northwest corner of the Highway 60 and Grand Avenue interchange. The Honda dealership vacated the property in 2008, just as Caltrans began plans to construct a direct westbound onramp to the 60 Freeway at Grand Avenue, city officials said. Land use is further complicated by a proposed NFL stadium project that could be built on adjacent property, officially in the city of Industry. “Consequently, the viability of the …

The event will be from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the community college's campus.
Job seekers looking for find work or wanting to change careers can meet today with employers longing to fill vacant posts. The Mt. SAC Career & Transfer Services office, in partnership with the city of Walnut, is hosting a job fair on campus. The event will go from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the Miracle Mile section of campus. The city of Walnut hosted a job fair last year, but this year has opted to team up with the community college. The job market prospects have been pretty spare in recent years, as the country struggles to recover from a recession. In March, California employers added 18,200 jobs, the Los Angeles Times reported. Economists have said they see the increase in jobs as a sign that the recovery is still ongoing, the …

Veronica Tagle, I agree wi you 100%. It would look great on h.s. students college resume and give them exposure plus community service hours. If not for free, at low cost to pay for the rent and needed materials plus an adult to work there full time to oversee the center. Maybe the city could pay for half the rent.   more ›
