Diamond Bar Celebrates its Birthday

Hundreds filled Pantera Park in Diamond Bar to celebrate in a city-sponsored, carnival-like party.

Saturday was sunny and breezy and a perfect day for Diamond Bar’s 23rd Birthday. The event, postponed from its original April date due to rain, went off without a hitch as thousands descended on Pantera Park to enjoy a car show, business expo and carnival held in honor of the big day. A number of local volunteers were also recognized. “This is a city that has a lot to be proud of,” Congressman Ed Royce (R-Orange) told the crowd during the ceremony honoring the volunteers. “You have a new City Hall, a new library, a new dog park, and now we’ve got to work on fixing that 57 Freeway.” A review of the event will be given to city officials in the coming days. Hundreds rode carnival rides and enjoyed food vendors along with the expo and show …

Cal Poly's "Curse of the Starving Class" Cast Includes Lamb

The Sam Shephard play opens tonight and runs through May 20.

The Cal Poly Pomona theatre department presents Sam Shepard's "Curse of the Starving Class," a dark comedy that deals with the breakdown of the American Dream. The show will open tonight and run through May 20. "Curse of the Starving Class" portrays a family living in California during the decline of the family farm and the disappearance of unspoiled land. The play will feature, for the first time, one of Cal Poly Pomona's own lambs. The lamb is on stage for much of the performance and occasionally acts as a non-verbal participant that characters direct monologues toward. Working with a live animal on-stage proved a challenge, but getting it from the university made the process much easier. "We're very fortunate to be able to get the lamb …

Mt. SAC Students Face Reality in New TV Production Class

The class is the only one of its kind in the state.

The pace, production, and popularity of today’s crop of television reality shows may seem a bit unreal to some. But to Mt. San Antonio College Professor Dan Smith, it’s all part of the industry that is growing by leaps and bounds and is the reason for the debut of Mt. SAC’s new Reality Show Production class, the only one of its kind in the state and maybe the nation. “As far as I can tell, there is no other educational institution in state—perhaps the nation—that offers a reality show production course like this,” said Smith, who has been teaching television production at Mt. SAC for 14 years. While there are other colleges that offer reality show survey courses, the Mt. SAC class is the only one that offers students hands-on production …

I think this is a great idea. I left my first Job at Fox Sports to go work on a Reality TV show. On my last day, a producer wished me luck because he said they wouldn't be around forever. The shooting style has crossed-over into scripted shows in the form of Docu-Drama shooting, like The Office on NBC and Modern Family on ABC. These are sitcoms that cut to Interviews.   more ›
