Bank Robbery Suspect Returns to Court Feb. 15
Jaimes Lawler's preliminary hearing today was postponed.
A preliminary hearing and bail review for a man suspected of robbing a Walnut Bank of America has been delayed.
Jaimes Lawler, 27, will appear in court Feb. 15 on the felony armed robbery charge. He was set to have a preliminary hearing this morning, but the matter was postponed after Lawler’s attorney, Milton Grimes, called the court to say he had just been released from the hospital and couldn’t appear. Grimes represented Rodney King in his 1994 civil case.
Lawler, who is being held at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles on $120,000 bail, did appear briefly in court. He blew kisses to family members before exiting the courtroom.
The Diamond Bar man was arrested Nov. 30, less than 24 hours after authorities allege he robbed the bank in the 200 block of Lemon Avenue. On Nov. 29, Lawler reportedly entered the Bank of America, presented a demand note to the teller, and brandished a handgun, authorities said. He allegedly fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
In an attempt to alter his appearance, the suspect cut his hair, according to authorities. Detectives collected the hair clippers, the demand note, and other evidence, which they said tied Lawler to the robbery. He was arrested the next day as he walked from a friend's apartment in Los Angeles. Lawler implicated himself during subsequent questioning and several witnesses picked him out of a photo line up following his arrest, according to investigators.
