It's Superfood, Part 2: Goji Berries
Superfoods like Goji berries can be a helpful addition to your daily diet to keep you mentally healthy and sharp.
Most of us are aware that fruits and vegetables are best eaten fresh from the farm, the day they are harvested. We spend time flocking to farmers’ markets to get fresh, unspoiled bounty.
This guarantees us live enzymes, vitamin power, and great taste. But beyond the freshness factor, there are "superfoods" from around the world that have powers beyond what is normal for things growing in the ground.
A superfood is a nutrient-rich food considered to be especially beneficial for health and well-being.
In the first article in this series, I discussed the benefits of acai berry.
Goji berry is the berry to beat in China. In almost all Asian markets, Goji berry can be found dried.
Chewing on these berries has wonderful health properties that any Chinese native already knows about.
Key Health Benefits are:
- Mood-lifting
- Eye health
- Memory preservation
These berries contain "good" sugars — polysaccharides — that, according to GenesisTody.com, have are involved in enhanced communication between cells of the body.
Goji can also be found as a juice — mixed with cranberry, it is delicious, too. The warning is, as with all juices, the amount you need is not 8-12 ounces. A small shot of Goji juice or a small handful of the dried berries in your oatmeal will do the trick.
For pure superfoods, I have found Genesis Today to offer the best product. You can find it online or at stores like Mother's Market & Kitchen, which has a store coming to Brea this summer.
Disclosure: Gabriela Klein distributes Genesis Today products.
